  • STRASBOURG: CHRISTMAS CAPITAL

    Willkomme im Strossburi Christkindelsmärik !

    From 26 November to 24 December 2025 :
            26 November: 2pm to 9pm
            Every day: 11.30am to 9pm
            24 December: 11.30am to 6pm

This year, it will be 455 years since the first Christmas Market in France took place, in one of the most beautiful cities in France, Strasbourg (we promise we are completely objective!)

But how did this beautiful story begin? Let's go back in time a bit, shall we?

In 1570, the pastor Johannes Flinner, at the head of the Protestant reform wants to prohibit the celebration of Saint-Nicolas.

Traders are not happy with this decision because this festival was an opportunity to organize a big fair. In a city like Strasbourg, it is difficult to leave merchants unhappy. A compromise is then found: a fair is still organized but two things change: it will no longer take place on December 6th (Saint-Nicolas Day, you guessed it) but three days before Christmas and will be in honour of the child Jesus (christkindel).

From year to year, the Christmas market continues to grow and welcomes more and more lovers of the Christmas spirit (and certainly mulled wine!). In 2024, it welcomed no less than 3,4 million visitors!

The capital of Christmas will be dressed in its most beautiful lights and decorations, but also of course with its unmissable Christmas tree which will sit proudly, from a height of 30 meters on Place Kleber. This year, no less than 300 chalets are waiting for you to celebrate the Christmas spirit.

Last little information for the most curious of you: it is not a Christmas market that awaits you but 8!

Indeed, several places on the Big Island will host different markets with distinct themes. Place Broglie, Place Kleber, or even the terrace of the Palais Rohan are waiting for you! And for the others, we leave you the pleasure of discovering them during your walk lulled by the songs and the scent of mulled wine.

You can download the Christmas market map HERE as well as the detailed program !

For more information, we invite you to consult the official website of the market in order to better prepare your visit.
